Responsibility.
By Walter Mow.
1. Personal responsibility open this part with a question. When and how did it become the responsibility of the public to feed, clothe and house children of irresponsible parents??? Yes, there are circumstances where there is SOME public responsibility, but that has become so overused that it is no longer a valid point. Irresponsible parents are a large part of this issue; children born out of wedlock, absentee fathers and mothers that feel that they should be able to have children but feel no responsibility for their care!It falls on the shoulders of both parties to see to it that contraceptives are used, not just one, but both parties!!Abstinence is not even considered any more, just have the kids and let someone else bear the responsibility for them!!! This MUST come to a halt!! "Welfare to Work" is but one of the solutions being bandied about, but by no means is this the only solution to this problem.
Then there is the college situation; kids who take classes that have no possible avenue to a job. Whose responsibility is that?? It sure as hell is not any one's problem but the damn fool who decided that they wanted to take this fool class!! Do colleges take any responsibility for this tragedy?? HELL NO!! But councilors do little to correct this short coming! The old crap of "Let George Do It" has come to the point that George is damn tired of being the scapegoat!!!
2. Corporate responsibilityThis is an area that time and again has pushed the responsibility off on the taxpayers.Love Canal comes to mind. Hooker Chemical Company dumped toxic wastes in the area for years leaving residents with horrendous health problems, some causing death while others were left with devastating health problems. Was the cleanup left for Hooker Chemical to do anything about the issue?? NO, the site was officially superficially cleaned up with taxpayers' money.
Next, we come to Ivanpah Solar, a solar electrical generating facility that due to inefficiency and huge costs will permanently close in 2026. Is this boondoggle going to be cleaned up by the companies that built this monstrosity? It very likely will not. It has made this part of the Mojave Desert a lifeless stretch of country with the likely hood that it may take centuries for it to repair itself.
Next in line is East Palestine, Ohio. A train derailment that has left a community destroyed for all intent and purpose. The health issues raised by this disaster is an ongoing travesty the railroad company wants to walk away from unscathed!! This cannot be allowed to happen; the people of East Palestine deserve better!!
3. Governmental responsibilityWhen it comes down to it, this is possibly the worst of all denials of responsibility. Taxpayers are left with enormous liability for things they never voted for or even wanted. Solyndra comes to mind; this fiasco was the doings of the Obama administration. Solyndra went broke and left the taxpayers to foot the bills for its demise. Is this any way to run a government!! NO, but it sure as hell is what "We the People" are left to contend with. This is but a smattering of the lack of responsibility we are left with. I am sure that many of you can think of many more places where the shirking of responsibility lies.
