How has your state handled Mail In - Absentee voting?

How has your state handled Mail In - Absentee voting? Absentee voting has always been used here in my home state of Ohio. You used it if out of state, shut in, medical, etc. I've used it in the past. One thing Ohio does that should be mandatory nationwide is that you have a small window and you need Voter ID. 

Yes Voter ID. Ohio requires proof even for Mail In -Absentee. Some are claiming that all you have to do is ask and you shall receive. No ID no vote. So what does your state require?
