Sometimes when going through hundreds of news articles to pick which one to publish a gem like this is uncovered. It is just a simple statement:

“China has felt that it is at such disadvantage,” Chin said. “It cannot control the overseas media, and its media outlets are not trusted by the mainstream Western world.”

Pretty simple, but it tells you so much as to how China views information. Let’s start with the author of that little piece, Chin.

“Yik Chan Chin, an assistant professor of media and communications at Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University, said: “The Chinese government has established effective control over domestic media after the Hong Kong protests showed signs of violence and posed a challenge to the central government’s authority.”

This to China is a perfectly normal statement. Of course, we are going to control our domestic media under any pretense.

But the world does not look on us favorably? So let’s change the world opinion using 200,000 twitter accounts, from the AP:

“WASHINGTON >> Twitter said today it had suspended more than 200,000 accounts that it believes were part of a Chinese government influence campaign targeting the protest movement in Hong Kong.

The company also said it would ban ads from state-backed media companies, expanding a prohibition it first applied in 2017 to two Russian entities.

Both measures are part of what a senior company official portrayed in an interview as a broader effort to curb malicious political activity on a popular platform that has been criticized for enabling election interference around the world and for accepting money for ads that amount to propaganda by state-run media organizations.”

As the demonstrations enter the third month Xi is getting increased pressure from the “Central Committee” to crack down on it wayward Island of Hong Kong.
